I’ve now put up a page with, yes, ways to subscribe! The link led to “coming soon” before, but now it works, and is here: /subscribe. (These include RSS, Bloglovin’ and…)
We’re starting a newsletter for Pursed Lips
I’ve been contemplating starting one but wanted to be completely happy with how it was set up, and planning on how I could deliver it on time, surely.
So it will start going out from between 2 weeks and a month, and will feature the best content from the week before its last. It’s just too hard for me to set up content from the same week I send the newsletter, which would mean either working the weekend or making sure I can finish in 1 day = ugh!
The good news is it will never be sent more often than once a week (even if sometimes it’s sent less often than weekly, which will happen from time to time).
*Update* 7am – & now the code + blog platform issues are fixed!
Subscribe below … or on the subscribe page any time.
Before you read this piece of beauty-equality fabulosity, note it comes from the blogger from Already Pretty. It’s not just esteem-boosting and not just pretty, but beautiful writing!
If you hate skinny jeans and prefer bootcuts because they balance you out, wear ‘em and screw the trend-hounds. If you want to wear foofy vintage dresses every single day because you feel fabulously feminine in them, do it and screw the buzzwreckers. If you think your collarbone is the sexiest thing ever created, wear scoop necks and boat necks and square necks and never ever don a collarbone-masking scarf, and screw the naysayers. Whatever you dislike, avoid it. Whatever makes you feel delighted to be alive, wear it.
And here are some of the bloggers’ style shots from AP’s piece. Their individual links below.
Casual Converse Chic! It can be done. Yay. I was thinking so with this style of sneaker’s non-bulk, so I bought a cute inexpensive version – but I’ll show you those shoes later! (They’re in the mail.)
I think she had a surgeon remove half her lungs! Like the right or left half, then moved the rest into the center. Adult lungs cannot fit into that torso.
(What surgeon would do that? Heidi Montag’s.)
I think she’s allergic to fat. She might just literally have 0% body fat.
Her head is huge! My monitor now looks 3D and it’s scary! She’s coming at me – like she will eat me – she might be that hungry…
Everything’s 3D these days, maybe this old-butt monitor got some secret ninja upgrade. But that’s a side worry.
Demi should never, ever actually be in one of those 3D movies that are ubiquitously upcoming. Hm, she might not have a career in 5 years. Too scary. Especially scary is where the world is going! But that’s a side terror.
This picture totally looks photoshopped. Her head looks pasted like a bad celeb “fake” – if you know what I mean.
Now, if you care about fashion, and I hope you do…
Above you can see what I was referring to in the so-couture randomness of the bodice wrapping. Di-vine.
Well, I guess that’s all about fashion, so I’ll just leave you after quickly going back to the first ramble-topic: in a world with Demi Moore, no wonder Lara Stone feels fat.
In a way I think this could be “Best” but I’m torn. In my last post I comparedZoe’s violet ruffles to beautiful flowers, but from the back they seem to be growing out of hand. And then the bottom of the train … has … 3 giant fuzzy fingers?
Wait! That looks like a giant Muppet hand ...
Zoe Saldana’s gown has even made it to our final “worst” poll at the end of the article…
View my picks for best dressed, or at least my honest favorites, from Oscars 2010. Below, vote on your favorite from mine in our poll.
Most Fearless Fashionista
Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Couture
Zoe Saldana went perhaps to extremes (or nuttiness?) in the name of fashion and I love it! Perhaps she was inspired by the beautiful world, Pandora, in Avatar … for the gown looks like violet flowers blooming!
Jennifer Lopez in Armani Privé - click to view large
Jennifer Lopez always stands out on the red carpet, and at least now she’s dressing like a beautiful woman, not just a pop tart. Not too trendy being not too ruffley, this gown instead is just over-the-top fashion, for any year – and I love it.
However, in a still photo it does sort of look like there’s 1-and-a-half J. Los. :-
Best Overall Designer of Oscars 2010: Versace
+ sexiest & most flattering ruffle dresses
but alsosafest bets.
Elizabeth Banks in Versace - click to view large
Elizabeth Banks, I think, here turns from funny girl to pretty woman. Donatella Versace’s tailoring here is so flattering. It’s way more than just another ruffle gown.
The color in this picture is bad, so I must tell you—no, it’s not denim!
Demi Moore in Atelier Versace
Demi Moore was actually somewhat overshadowed by this Versace. The handiwork on the bodice is just amazingly intricate. Truly harder to tell on a monitor, but it’s the criss-cross fabric in its random way – swoon.
Yet I don’t really love the flower. It would be better if the ruffles were (more) obviously flowing from it or if it were less flower-like and flat.
Best Au Courant Newcomer
Vera Farmiga in Marchesa
Vera Farmiga wore my overall favorite of this year’s event. When I saw her interviewed on the red carpet, I exclaimed, “now Marchesa’s a one of my favorite designers!” (Or something a little less well-structured.) The gown is lmost-safe yet so close to what other fashion pundits have hated recently – well I do not hate at all. The only thing I don’t love is that there seems to be a ruffle layer missing toward the bottom. Humph.
Honorable Mention
A Fashionista’s Fashionista
OR Oscar’s Very Own Designer
Sandy Powell, costume designer
Sandy Powell even won an Oscar for design, costume design. The dress and its colors aren’t my style but I love, love, love her use of chic accessories.
Ever since a script upgrade our handy 404 stopped properly suggesting links to read based on URL given (a lot of our old erroneous URLs were wordy) – I wasn’t sure how to fix it but I just put the time in and it’s working as well as ever!
P.S. A while back we also needed to fix our search function, and that’s been working for some time too – in case you needed to know.
I’m now working on making sure some wrong addresses are right to even better the site.
Right when this buzzworthy Louis Vuitton bag hit the ‘net, I was scrambling to fit in coverage of the late Alexander McQueen and what of NY Fashion Week I could, so my usual dissing of bad design had to wait. And wait past my flu. But I love critiquing design and publishing fug fashion more than runway shows, so without further ado…
Is the worse part the tell-tale orange cinch-tie, or the “Louis Vuitton” wording for the logo-addicted?
Buyer beware! We think this bag is an intended insult to those who’ll carry anything with LVs – regardless of style. This “purse” will signal any carrier as a fashion victim. Easily.
Unless you’re an Olsen Twin. Ah, yes – it’s so perfect for them, it might have been made for them to finally solidify their fashion status as hobos. We still think even they won’t take that bait.
I’m sure many fashionistas in NYC got the flu or some bug this February. I mean, with the horrid health care in America, it’s bound to happen more than in London! I posted a London schedule and then fell ill the very weekend in which I was going to actually work right through.
I didn’t believe in flu shots, but um … now I do, the risk just isn’t worth it for me. (Mild asthma still makes the flu worse, ugh.)
So now I’ve rested enough for no more excuses. Here’s a list of resources for those like I…
Our earlier post has links to review both New York and London weeks.
Milan: I couldn’t quickly find a great resource on Milan Fashion Week, which is coming to a close, so here’s a link to the Milan Fashion Week news Google finds.
When I get a little bit more time I will review news and shows from London and Milan, and posts might come from that. If anyone has a good resource or schedule for Milan, comment or write!
Fashionista with training in writing, skill & drive for design and the biggest obsession for bags. The fashion / web outsider. Somehow, I can't catch a break. At least my fringe position leaves room for biting honesty.
